Travel Tips

With summer one foot out the door, planning a last minute vacation will bring lots of excitement. There are some great ways to make sure your vacation will run smooth and save you money at the same time.
1. Pack a cooler in the car if driving.
Not only does this save time but money as well. Drinks, snacks and sandwich’s can keep everyone happy and on there own eating schedule without having to stop 2-3 different times on an 8 hour road trip.
2. First stop: Visitors Bureau/ Welcoming Centers.
These centers are filled with valuable and money saving coupons and discount books. Not to mention the people working there are locals and can tell you all the fun and exciting hot spots.
3. Educate yourself on your destination.
Research the city or town you are headed to before you leave. Knowing alittle about the area or culture will make your trip run smooth. If they speak another language, learn a few phrases. If seafood is the main local industry, find out where the best fresh seafood restaurants are located to support the locals. If you are going to a foreign country, find out about there transportation (subway, bus, train, ect).
4. Pack a lunch everyday.
Whether your heading to the beach, pool, or sightseeing–packing a lunch for your group saves you lots of money. A quick sandwich is also a more healthy alternative to some of the other meals on the go.
5. Buy souvenirs at a discount or grocery store.
Souvenirs are expensive, especially if you have lots to buy. Buying them in very tourist spots will leave you wallet hurting. Find a local discount store or grocery in the area you are visiting and you will be surprise at the bargains. T-shirt prices will be cut in half, while trinkets and other memorabilia will be just as nice as the ones at the more pricey stores.
6. Start a travel log diary.
Keeping a travel log allows you to write down emotions and wonderful feelings that may be lost with just memory. Also, you can attach photos and keepsakes with each diary entry. For example, if you visit a vineyard or winery while on one of your journeys, you can keep the wine cork or the label on the wine bottle. If you visit a gorgeous beach, you can gather a shell or a small plastic bag of sand from there. If your hiking on one of your journeys and come across a beautiful sunset, a picture and a few flowers from the area would make a nice addition in your travel log diary.
